RealSelf Discusses Retin-A, The Skincare Ingredient Your Future Self Needs Now

RealSelf’s Blog “The Treatment” looked at Retin-A (also known as Tretinoin), a topical skincare treatment that is available by prescription, especially for treating fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, acne, dull or uneven texture, redness, and even rosacea. However, it can be difficult for sensitive skin.

Dr. Michele Green was featured in the article and was asked about “When’s the right time to upgrade to Retin-A?” She mentions that while “many over the counter products sold at drugstores can help rejuvenate dull skin, prescription products come into play when patients have eczema, rosacea, acne, or severe hyperpigmentation and need stronger products.”

However, as noted earlier, sensitive skin can be an issue. “Retin-A can be drying and irritating. If you have very sensitive skin, eczema or rosacea-prone skin, you may not be a good candidate,” Dr. Green says. “There are many patients who can’t tolerate the side effects.”
