Typically, the first signs of aging appear on a person’s neck with sagging jowls and loose skin by the jawline. Most patients who experience the visible signs of aging along the neck are not ready for a face lift, but are interested in a non-invasive, non-surgical, treatment for skin tightening.  Dr. Michele Green is an expert in non-invasive cosmetic procedures and performs the best skin tightening laser treatments in NYC to rejuvenate your neck and jowls, without any downtime.

In the past, many lasers and procedures were focused on the face, and didn’t pay attention to the aging neck. However, just like our faces, the neck loses collagen and elastin as we age.  It is very important to concentrate on both rebuilding this lost collagen and restoring the structure of the aging neck and jowls. This is where non-invasive lasers and injections are vital to the process of non-surgical neck rejuvenation. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Michele Green combines radiofrequency based lasers for skin tightening like Thermage®, and injectables such as Kybella® to remove fat, with dermal fillers like Juvederm® and Sculptra® to sculpt the jawline, and produce the best non-surgical neck lift.

If you’re feeling self-conscious about the look of your neck, jawline, or lower face, Dr. Green is here to help. Dr. Green is an expert in NYC in non-invasive cosmetic procedures, such as Botox, Juvederm, Fraxel laser, chemical peels, CoolSculpting, and microneedling. What is a non-surgical neck lift?

Many patients who struggle with excess fat, sagging skin, or signs of aging around the neck area wonder if there is a non-surgical neck lift that can work for them. Yes, with a combination of non-invasive treatments, Dr. Green can rejuvenate the neck, without any need for downtime.

The non-surgical neck lift utilizes a combination of radiofrequency lasers, injectables, and other tailored treatment options in order to contour the neck and revitalize both the neck and jawline. Radiofrequency lasers, like Thermage FLX, use targeted pulsating treatments to heat the deeper layers of the dermis, increasing elastin and collagen production which acts to tighten and firm the skin. This skin tightening procedure is often combined with CoolSculpting’s fat-freezing technology and/or Kybella injections, which use the body’s natural metabolic processes to eliminate excess fat around the neck, jowls, and submental area.

When it comes to treating natural, age-related volume loss around the neck, dermal fillers can be transformative. Dermal fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, Sculptra and Radiesse use active ingredients like hyaluronic acid, poly-L-lactic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite to stimulate new collagen production in the body, thus producing the volume and lift that is essential to rejuvenation of the neck area.

Do non-surgical neck lifts work?

Skin tightening lasers, fat reduction technology, and injectable treatment options can all be applied to create a holistic, non-surgical neck lift that requires zero downtime, unlike a traditional neck lift surgery. Many patients prefer a non-surgical neck lift to a traditional neck lift surgery, as the non-surgical alternative is more affordable, more flexible, and requires minimal downtime.

Though not all treatment options for a non-surgical neck lift are permanent, many patients find that they benefit from non-surgical treatment options, such as Thermage or BBL, well past a full year. In the case of CoolSculpting or Kybella treatments for excess fat, the fat cells eliminated from treatment are permanently gone, which means that the effects will last for as long as a patient continues to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, many patients will schedule regular touch-up appointments of dermal fillers and Thermage, which allow for maximum results that can last up to several years.

What is the best non-surgical neck lift?

The best non-surgical neck lift is entirely dependent on the needs and aesthetic wants of each individual patient. During an initial consultation, Dr. Green will work with you to determine what the desired outcomes of the non-surgical neck lift are, and assesses the best possible treatment options to satisfy these goals. Dr. Green relies on a variety of cutting edge cosmetic procedures in order to create the best overall experience for each of her patients.

What are the best procedures for a non-surgical neck lift?

When it comes to a non-surgical neck lift, Dr. Green recommends a combination of complementary nonsurgical treatments. The most common treatments address skin laxity (Thermage), excess fat (Kybella and CoolSculpting), and age-related volume loss (dermal fillers). Additionally, non-surgical neck lifts can benefit from the use of neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport, which are able to “freeze” nerve signals to targeted areas in order to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles on the skin.

Thermage for a non-surgical neck lift

Thermage utilizes monopolar radiofrequency energy to deliver heat directly to the deeper layers of the skin; it targets the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. Thermage is the best alternative to a face lift to tighten the skin and is the number one skin tightening procedure in Dr. Green’s office. This FDA approved laser acts to tighten and contour the skin by generating new collagen production. Thermage is entirely non-invasive and painless with absolutely no downtime. Thermage’s ability to tighten the skin goes beyond the face, forehead, eyelids, neck and jowls, and extends to other areas of the body such as arms, knees, buttocks, hands, and stomach. Thermage is designed to treat crepey skin and tighten skin laxity, especially when it comes to neck skin.

Dr. Green utilizes the new Thermage FLX laser, which is more effective in tightening the neck skin than the original Thermage laser. A single treatment session for Thermage takes 90 minute, there is no downtime, and you can resume your daily activities immediately after the procedure. Only a single treatment of Thermage is needed. The benefits of this single treatment of Thermage is that the results last up to two years. Some patients prefer to have a follow up annually with Thermage to produce more collagen and maximize the skin tightening effects and rejuvenation.  Dr. Green considers the Thermage FLX the best non-invasive skin tightening treatment available in New York.

Ulthera vs Thermage for skin tightening

Ultherapy, utilizes ultrasound energy to target the deeper lasers of the skin, in the dermis, to promote the production of collagen and elastin. Like Thermage, the Ulthera System is used to tighten the skin in the face and neck. The result is skin tightening along the jawline and face. Ultherapy is much more painful than Thermage and patients are required to have anesthesia before the procedure is performed. The results of Thermage are longer lasting and there have been reports of facial fat loss as a side effect of Ultherapy.  For these reasons, Dr. Green prefers Thermage for a non surgical neck lift for her patients.

BBL Broadband laser for skin tightening

BBL Broadband laser, also known as SkinTyte, is another great option for skin tightening of the face and neck. BBL can be used for patients of all skin types, for patients with dark skin tone. BBL is designed to tighten the skin through infrared technology and laser heat to product new collagen and tighten the skin. For the best cosmetic results five treatments are scheduled one month apart and maintenance treatments are designed every six months for optimal skin tightening results. BBL SkinTyte laser has no recovery time and no discomfort and can be performed within 30 minutes in the office with no preparation needed. BBL can be combined with IPL treatments for skin hyperpigmentation and redness during the same visit.

CoolSculpting for body contouring with the Coolmini

Many patients have submental fat under their chin which gives them the appearance of a “double chin“.  Before CoolSculpting was FDA-approved, the only way to reduce this fat was through plastic surgery and invasive liposuction. CoolSculpting has become an extremely popular way to reduce the fat under the chin without the side effects of invasive surgical treatments. CoolSculpting has practically replaced the need for this type of cosmetic surgery. Coolsculpting of the neck involves utilizing a small applicator, the “Cool Mini“, placed under the chin to “freeze” this unwanted fat.  The fat cells are frozen and get reabsorbed by the body over a period of months.

The full effect of Coolsculpting typically takes four months. Each CoolSculpting treatment reduces the fat in the treated area by 25 percent. If there is a significant amount of fat under the chin, Dr. Green recommends having a second treatment of Coolsculpting, with the Coolmini applicator, a month after the first procedure, to maximize the desired results. Coolsculpting may be used to treat other areas of the body as well, such as the abdomen, arms, inner and outer thighs, buttocks, and knees. If there is a small amount of fat remaining after Coolsculpting, Dr. Green utilizes Kybella injections to dissolve and contour the remaining submental fat.

Kybella for non-surgical lift and double chin

Kybella is made up deoxycholic acid, a secondary bile acid, which is a part of the gut’s natural ecosystem.  Kybella is an FDA approved injectable treatment designed to dissolve the fat cells in the submental area, which is the area below the chin. Many patients hate their “turkey neck,” and Kybella can be a wonderful solution. Kybella permanently dissolves the fat under the neck and counters it, producing a non surgical neck lift.

Typically, Kybella takes 3 to 4 treatments, spaced one month apart, depending on the amount of fat under the chin, in the submental area. There is also some evidence that Kybella tightens the skin in the treated area at the same time.  Kybella is injected after a topical local anesthesia is applied.  The main side effects of Kybella injections are localized swelling and bruising at the treatment site.  Dr. Green recommends discontinuing any blood thinners one week before your injections to minimize bruising.  In addition, applying ice packs immediately after treatment, and sleeping elevated with two pillows, minimizes any swelling.  Kybella injections have become an amazing way for patients to skip liposuction and have their fat melted away easily, without surgery, at Dr. Michele Green’s New York office.

Can Botox or Dysport be used for a non surgical neck lift?

Botox and Dysport are used frequently on the neck and face for facial rejuvenation. While Botox has been used for years for facial rejuvenation to soften fine lines on the forehead, glabella, and around the the eyes (crow’s feet), it is also very popular for treating the neck.  Botox can be injected into the vertical neck cords to soften them.  Botox can also be used to smooth the fine lines on the neck in a Nefertiti Lift and create a non-surgical neck lift. Dr. Green often combines Botox with other dermal fillers and lasers to contour the neck and face, to create a more youthful appearance.

Which other laser treatments are used for a non-surgical neck lift?

Some of the best lasers to treat crepey skin and help stimulate new collagen production for the face, neck, and décolleté are the Fraxel laser, eMatrix, Clear and Brilliant laser, along with Microneedling.  These non-invasive cometic procedures help form new elastin and collagen, and improve the tone and texture of the skin. Part of reducing the signs of aging on the neck also involves treating fine lines and wrinkles. These laser treatments are able to improve these visible signs of aging with almost no downtime. Many of the non surgical neck lift laser procedures have been a boon to dermatology, and have replaced the invasive surgical procedures of plastic surgery. Dr. Green often combines Fraxel and Thermage since the Fraxel will correct fine lines, pigmentation, and texture while the Thermage will tighten the skin and provide the best facial rejuvenation.

Can you get a neck lift and face lift from non-invasive treatments?

A non-surgical neck lift is often combined with non-surgical face lift procedures in order to provide optimal skin rejuvenation where it matters most. Frequently, Dr. Green will develop a treatment plan for both neck lift and face lift that combines choice skin tightening treatments, laser resurfacing treatments, microneedling, chemical peels, or injectables for revitalizing, anti-aging results.

Can you get a non-surgical face lift, liquid face lift, or neck lift with dermal fillers?

One of the post popular ways to replace lost volume and restore a youthful appearance is through utilizing injectable fillers such as Juvederm VolumaRestylane Lyft, and Sculptra.  These dermal fillers help plump up the skin and bring back the volume to your face, which has been deflated with aging and stress. Juvederm and Restylane are composed of hyaluronic acid, which plumps and smooths out the skin. There are many areas of the face which become hollow and sunken with age and need volume replacement. The cheeks, temples, chin, lips, and tear trough area (under the eyes) are common areas which Dr. Green treats to restore lost facial volume. By replacing these hollows with injectable fillers, these area are restored to reveal a younger and more beautiful appearance.

Dr. Green commonly uses Sculptra as a volumizer because it stimulates the body to produce its own collagen.  Sculptra can be used on any area of the body, neck, and décolletage and face, except for the tear trough area, under the eyes. The effects of Sculptra last for at least two years, and usually 3 treatment sessions are needed to have the desired result. For the delicate tear trough area, under the eyes, Dr. Green uses Belotero or Restylane fillers. Belotero is a fine dermal filler which is well suited for the under eye area and is less likely to produce the Tyndall side effect. The Tyndall effect is where there is a bluish hue to the skin, from the reflection of light on the skin, when a dermal filler is injected too superficially. Belotero can also be used to treat the fine lines on the neck. Dr. Green often combines Botox for treating the neck cords with Belotero for treating the fine lines in the neck. Sculptra and hyaluronic acid fillers are also combined to restore the neck line and contour the jawline as well, creating a more youthful appearance.
