As we age, fine lines and wrinkles naturally appear on each of our faces. Though these changes are a part of the aging process, patients are often frustrated by premature lines and wrinkles that make them feel less-than-gorgeous. Thankfully, there are many non-invasive treatments available that can reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and folds by jumpstarting new collagen production in our bodies with no downtime required. The new Thermage FLX is an FDA-approved collagen regeneration treatment that uses innovative radiofrequency technology to reverse signs of aging all along the body. Thermage FLX uses radiofrequency energy to heat the deeper dermal layer of the skin while keeping the surface skin cool. This innovative technology can tighten the skin from on the face, jowls, jawline, eye area, as well as the arms, legs, abdomen, and buttocks.
Dr. Michele Green is always exploring new ways that patients can be treated more effectively, and Thermage FLX is at the forefront of advancements in dermatology. The new Thermage FLX, from Solta Medical, uses the same innovative technology of previous Thermage technologies, but has improved several aspects of treatment, including patient comfort and speed. Whereas previous Thermage technologies would have a treatment time of 90 minutes or more, Thermage FLX makes it possible to treat the entire face in around 45 minutes, and larger treatment areas in under an hour.
This shorter treatment time is possible because the new treatment tips on the device are 4cm, covering a 25% larger surface area than before. This not only allows for greater coverage, but also improved comfort during treatment. Additionally, treatment precision has been improved. Algorithmic, patented technology (AccuREP™) has been incorporated into the handpiece to allow for optimal energy delivery and, thus, more precise treatment through the use of real-time adjustments on a per-pulse basis.
If you’re frustrated by fine lines, folds, and sagging skin due to aging, Thermage FLX can help address these visible signs of aging. Dr. Michele Green is an expert in non-invasive cosmetic treatments and anti-aging procedures. How does Thermage FLX work?
Thermage FLX uses radiofrequency (RF) technology to heat the collagen-rich layers of the skin, which in turn stimulates collagen production and reduces skin laxity or loose skin. When the skin firms, it creates smoother skin which in turn reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. RF skin tightening technology has been available to patients since the early 2000’s and Solta Medical have been at the forefront of this technology with Thermage.
The new Thermage FLX treatment works in a similar way to previous Thermage treatments but, as time has gone on, the technology involved has been improved and refined. With the addition of AccuREP™ algorithmic technology, the application of radiofrequency energy is extremely precise, and the wider treatment tip is a wonderful improvement on previous Thermage devices. Now, patients can undergo a speedy, comfortable treatment that can both tighten loose skin, create a well defined jaw line, treat fine lines, and generate new collagen production. As a bonus, it works to reduce the appearance of cellulite on the body on the selected treatment areas, such as the buttocks and thighs.
Dr. Green not only recommends Thermage FLX, but also has experienced this skin tightening procedure first-hand. As a result, she has an intimate knowledge about how this treatment works and can discuss the procedure in detail with you. Injectables and skincare combined with Thermage
Thermage skin tightening treatment is an excellent cosmetic rejuvenation treatment not only because it can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in as little as a single treatment, but can also be combined with other non-invasive cosmetic treatments to create maximum results.
When it comes to combination treatments with Thermage, Dr. Green sees a lot of patients who are frustrated by the appearance of jowls. As Dr. Green is quoted in her interview with Modern Aesthetics, the combination of Fraxel skin resurfacing laser and Thermage treatment is an optimal treatment for areas where patients commonly experience sun damage: ““If they have jowls, they usually have sun damage and usually have lost collagen. I find that if you do a Thermage/Fraxel combination where you’re reducing pigmentation, sun damage, and fine lines with the Fraxel, the results are outstanding. That’s because they’ve done the Thermage tightening and they’ve done the Fraxel to work on the epidermal changes. I pair that often with some kind of neuromodulator like Botox or Dysport and some kind of filler.”
Injectables, such as Botox and Dysport, as well as hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm and Restylane, can also help to enhance optimal facial contouring. A combination treatment plan can create amazing, rejuvenating results without the need for invasive plastic surgery or long recovery times.
Can Thermage be combined with Botox?
Thermage can be combined with Botox to wonderful effect. In particular, Thermage can be combined with a neuromodulator such as Botox to both stimulate collagen growth and relax the muscles of the eye area and brows. This combination treatment essentially creates a natural appearing “brow lift” that requires zero downtime and can have long-lasting results.
Who is a good candidate for Thermage FLX?
A good candidate for Thermage FLX is any patient with mild-to-moderate skin laxity, as well as those with mild sun damage. Thermage’s radiofrequency technology can be used safely on patients with all skin tones. Thermage FLX is extremely effectiveness, and gradually over time, improvement in skin sagging and sun fine lines becomes self evident. It takes 4 to 6 months to appreciate the full cosmetic results of Thermage FLX. The Thermage FLX is safe and effective treatment for patients of all ages. Younger patients benefit from producing new collagen and preventing the visible signs of aging as a maintenance treatment. More mature patients will appreciate the visible signs of aging being repaired with gradual new collagen formation and skin tightening.
What is the Thermage FLX treatment like?
Thermage FLX treatment is a simple and painless process for the majority of patients. First, you’ll meet with Dr. Green for an initial consultation to discuss your concerns and goals for skin rejuvenation treatment. Then, when you come into the office for Thermage treatment, Dr. Green will apply the handheld device to the skin. Each time the device touches your skin, you’ll feel a slight cooling sensation, after which you’ll experience a brief heating sensation. This will continue over a series of pulses along the treatment area.
After treatment, you can resume normal activity, and we recommend you incorporate a daily sunscreen into your skin regimen, if you haven’t already. The increase in collagen production after your initial Thermage treatment should continue for several months, and results from Thermage skin tightening treatment can last up to a couple of years, depending on your skin condition.
What are the side effects of Thermage FLX?
One of the wonderful aspects Thermage FLX is that there are no side effects associated from this laser skin tightening treatment. Some patients may experience temporary redness after treatment, but these symptoms typically dissipate within an hour after treatment. You can resume normal actives immediately after your Thermage treatment. Basic sunscreen is all that is needed after your skin tightening procedure.
