Kybella Injections in NYC

Originally known as ATX-101, Kybella (deoxycholic acid) is the first and only injectable drug approved by the FDA that contours and improves the appearance of moderate to severe fat under the chin known as submental fat. Kybella will make a significant difference in “double chin” fat in adults, and Kybella is a safe alternative to liposuction or surgery.

A recent survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) found that more than 2/3 of consumers are bothered by submental fullness – nearly as many as those bothered by lines and wrinkles around the eyes. Submental fullness can detract from an otherwise pleasing facial appearance, making you look older and heavier because of the excess fat under your chin.

The treatment is available for men and women, in fact some early reports note that the Kybella procedure is just as popular with men as it is with women.

    How does Kybella work?

Kybella is a non-human and non-animal formulation of deoxycholic acid that is identical to a molecule your body already makes to help break down and absorb the fats in your diet. An injection of Kybella into the fat beneath your skin causes the destruction of fat cells – and once destroyed, those cells can no longer store or accumulate fat.

Many patients experience visible results in two to four treatment sessions spaced at least one month apart. A topical numbing cream is applied thirty minutes before the procedure. An in-office treatment session usually lasts 15 to 20 minutes, which means you can even do this on your lunch break. Once the desired result is achieved with Kybella, you won’t need re-treatment because the fat will not return.

Potential side effects can include some localized swelling at the treated area, along with minor discomfort, bruising and numbness.  Kybella treatments are currently only approved for the submental area though, as it is designed for small collections of fat cells.
