NBC Select Asks Dr. Green About Scalp Sunscreen

As NBC noted today, ahead of the summer months – “Yes, you need sunscreen on your scalp regardless of hair coverage — here are the best ones to shop.” They go through a list of the 7 best scalp sunscreens available over the counter and review each of them, including some of the top brands.

She also helps NBC’s team note what to look for in a scalp sunscreen, comparing the types of sunscreens such as mineral vs. chemical sunscreen and factoring in your skin type.  Hair color is not a factor though since “studies have shown that hair provides very little protection for your scalp, regardless of hair color,” says Dr. Michele Green. “If there’s no hair on the scalp, it’s extra important to protect it with sunscreen or a UV-protective hat.”
