Hair Care Routines for the Summer & Healthy Hair Year-Round: Hum

Dr. Green was featured in Hum Nutrition twice, in both cases where she offers advice on how to keep your hair healthy through the summer months, as well as year-round.  Use of the right products helps, but so do overall health habits such as a balanced diet.  “To promote the health and growth of hair follicles, maintain a balanced diet that is rich in iron, zinc, and vitamin D,” advises Dr. Green in the article. This includes a mix of beans, chickpeas, eggs, fish and red meat. In addition to that “foods with antioxidants—such as strawberries and dates—can also protect the hair and scalp from UV damage, oxidative stress, and free radical damage to prevent breakage,” she notes.

As for vitamins and supplements, Dr. Green adds that biotin and B vitamins can help since “hair growth relies on vitamins and minerals, and a deficiency in these nutrients can significantly impede hair growth.”

The other article talks about shampoos for those that want to avoid hair loss – “Patients concerned about hair loss should avoid shampoos that contain irritants such as alcohol, sulfates, parabens, and fragrances,” says Dr. Green.  The article overall also picks out a few recommended shampoos for getting thicker and fuller hair.
