How to Prevent Oily Skin – Dr. Green Featured in Self Magazine
Dr. Michele Green is featured in Self Magazine’s article on “3 Easy Steps For Getting Oily Skin Under Control” this March. Here she offers advice on how to keep skin from going dry by over-stripping it – “Using anything that’s too stripping just makes [skin] really irritated and dry,” explains dermatologist Michele Green, M.D. “You’re making it worse. Now you have really dry skin and before you had oily skin.”
There also isn’t anything necessarily wrong with oily skin – for instance “[People with oily skin] are less likely to have wrinkles later [in life because] all the sebum is lubricating the skin, so it’s an internal moisturizer,” says Dr. Green. So, it’s time to stop fighting against genetics (which is one of the main factors behind oily skin) and work with what you’ve got.
Of course, dead skin cells, clogged pores and bacteria should be combated. Dr. Green says exfoliation is especially important for oily skin because this skin type is more likely to get breakouts. So while using multiple astringents is certainly not the answer, find out what Dr. Green does recommend at http://www.self.com/story/oily-skin-tips
