Note: Currently Juvederm® Volite is not available in the United States but if you are interested in this or similar treatments such as Juvederm Volbella, then please contact Dr. Green to find out more.
One of the latest treatments launched by Allergan in 2017 (available only in Europe currently) is called Juvéderm® Volite and it has been designed as an anti-aging skin treatment that helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, while helping the overall tone and texture of the skin itself. The main goal of this treatment is to help the face become more hydrated and provide an overall better appearance to the skin.
This version of Juvederm is similar to Juvederm Volbella, where a Hyaluronic acid (HA) gel is injected into the skin and provides results for up to six to nine months. As the gel is inserted into the skin, this in turn improve the hydration of the skin. This is due to the high water-binding capacity of Hyaluronic acid. This is combined with the VYCROSS® technology which is patented by Allergan and uses a mix of molecular weights in order to attract moisture. The gel also contains lidocaine, to help decrease any potential pain.
In fact, unlike most other Hyaluronic Acid injections, Volite is injected for the moisture itself. It works to hydrate and plump the skin, in turn smoothing out the look and feel of the skin. Another one of the key benefits of Juvederm® Volite is that it is designed to help increase the overall elasticity of the skin. The way this works is due to the fact that Hyaluronic acid also stimulates the body’s own natural collagen production. As we age, collagen is lost in the skin and the level of Hyaluronic acid starts to deplete once we hit our late 20’s, but via treatments such as Juvederm Volite, the collagen can be replaced.
This treatment is gaining popularity in Europe (particularly in the UK) due to its ability to remove fine lines around the eyes and in various areas of the face. Not only can Juvederm Volite be used on the face but it can also be used in a few other areas of the body too. For example – this procedure can help improve the tone and texture of the neck, the lower neck and upper chest area (décolletage) along with the back of ones hands. All these areas can end up looking a little tired over the years, but with a hydration boost using Juvederm® Volite their appearance can be improved.
Results from the treatment take a few weeks to fully develop, but the good news is that the procedure can be carried out in just one sitting and is relatively quick to administer. This means it can be fitted into your schedule relatively easily. Because the needles used are very small, and a numbing agent is typically used, most people report that the treatment is not painful with only some minor discomfort reported. After the treatment there may be some skin redness but generally any side effects for the majority of individuals are minimal.
