Increasing Risk of Shingles Complications by Age – Very Well Health

Very Well Health takes a look at “Why Does Shingles Impact People So Differently?” and asks Dr. Green about how it affects people in general, but especially older adults, those that have a prior chickenpox infection for instance are more likely, as when someone gets chickenpox, they become more susceptible to developing shingles later in life because both shingles and chickenpox are caused by the same virus, known as the varicella zoster virus (VZV).

Dr. Green mentions a few things in the article today but one key to avoiding shingles is managing stress and getting plenty of rest – as this can help promote healing and support the body’s immune system in recovery.
