Thermage® treatment is a non-invasive skin tightening treatment that relies on radiofrequency energy to stimulate new collagen production in the treatment area, improving the appearance of loose skin and diminishing fine lines and wrinkles without the need for an invasive surgical procedure from a plastic surgeon, incisions, scars, or anesthesia. By triggering the body’s natural collagen production process, the Thermage non-invasive procedure works to rejuvenate the skin for a smoother, tighter, more youthful appearance. Just one treatment session with Thermage radiofrequency is enough to create long-lasting results. Because it is a non-invasive treatment, the appointment itself can typically be scheduled during your lunch hour. With the most up-to-date comfort technology, Thermage treatment for skin tightening ensures that there is no discomfort during the procedure and no downtime afterward, meaning patients can immediately resume their normal activities. Dr. Green was one of the first dermatologists in NYC to utilize the Thermage procedure in her private Manhattan dermatology office, with excellent skin tightening results in a single treatment.

As a result of the natural aging process, collagen production in the skin begins to decrease over time. Consequently, the skin loses structure, resulting in sagging, crepey, loose skin. The presence of loose skin by itself can be distressing and can also emphasize the appearance of other signs of aging, like fine lines, wrinkles, jowls, and cellulite. Luckily, sagging skin and other signs of aging can easily be addressed with the array of non-invasive treatments available at Dr. Michele Green’s Upper East Side, New York City dermatology office. With Thermage RF technology, patients can look forward to achieving firm, youthful-looking skin in as little as one treatment session. Thermage treatment can also be paired with other complementary non-invasive treatments, including dermal fillers, Botox, Kybella, and CoolSculpting, to address your specific skin concerns fully and achieve your ideal aesthetic goals.

Internationally renowned, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Michele Green in New York City is an expert in non-invasive treatment options, including skin tightening. What is Thermage treatment?

Thermage is a non-invasive skin tightening treatment that uses radiofrequency laser technology to produce skin rejuvenation results without any downtime. An inevitable part of the aging process is that levels of elastin and collagen production decrease. Collagen and elastin are proteins that naturally occur in the body and provide the skin with a firm foundation and elasticity. As collagen and elastin are depleted, the result is visible fine lines and wrinkles and crepey, loose skin. For patients looking to reduce these visible signs of aging and combat the natural aging process of the skin, Thermage® treatment is an excellent skin tightening option. Thermage skin tightening treatment gives you tighter, firmer, smoother skin, softens fine lines and wrinkles, and helps you look younger without any plastic surgery by boosting your body’s natural collagen production. The Thermage procedure can be used nearly anywhere on the face or body, including the neck, chest, décolletage, upper arms, abdomen, thighs, and buttocks, for a non-surgical “lift” effect that firms and tightens loose skin.

What does Thermage Treatment do?

Thermage radiofrequency skin tightening treatment has many benefits but primarily creates firm, smooth, and youthful-looking skin without requiring surgical procedures or downtime. The Thermage procedure can be performed on many body parts, including the face, arms, abdomen, legs, buttocks, chest, and neck. The Thermage treatment relies on radiofrequency technology to deliver heat application to the middle layers of the skin, stimulating the production of new collagen and remodeling existing collagen. In addition to skin tightening, Thermage treatment will also help to improve the overall texture of the skin, reducing the signs of aging such as crepey or loose skin as well as fine lines and wrinkles. Patients who are frustrated with the appearance of cellulite can also turn to Thermage to address the dimpled look of the skin. Thermage treatment is an excellent cosmetic procedure for rejuvenation. When you consult with board-certified cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Michele Green, she will work with you to develop a treatment plan that is best suited to your unique needs and goals.

What is Thermage radiofrequency skin tightening treatment good for?

Thermage radiofrequency skin tightening can be performed almost anywhere on the body, including the face, chest, neck, décolletage, hands, knees, arms, legs, buttocks, and abdomen. Most patients do not want a traditional surgical facelift, and Thermage treatment is able to target the sagging jowls and enhance the definition of the jawline through this revolutionary skin-tightening treatment. Thermage is uniquely designed to non-surgically tighten the skin at the first signs of aging by remodeling existing collagen and promoting new collagen production. Thermage lifts, tightens, and rejuvenates the skin in just a single treatment in expert, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Michele Green’s NYC office.

Thermage treatment uses innovative (RF) radiofrequency technology to safely heat the inner layers of your skin, followed by a brief cooling sensation to the skin’s surface to enhance patient comfort. This deep heating helps tighten existing collagen and stimulates new collagen production. As new collagen builds over time following treatment, the result is smoother, tighter skin, improved skin texture, and an overall more youthful complexion.

Dr. Green’s practice now offers Thermage treatment using a variety of different applicator tips that differ in size and function, designed to be used on different areas of the face and body. The Thermage® Total Tip 3.0 is a new design that offers some rejuvenation results almost immediately and improves long-term results. The 3.0 tip allows for targeted, uniform treatments that deliver a more comfortable experience for patients and a more impressive outcome. Thermage FLX is the newest generation of Thermage treatment devices. The Thermage FLX device has a 4cm tip, which is designed to be used on parts of the body with a greater surface area, such as the abdomen, thighs, and arms. The new tip allows for a faster and more comfortable treatment process with innovative comfort technology.

What to expect from Thermage skin rejuvenation at Dr. Green’s dermatology office

Dr. Green offers Thermage® treatments for skin tightening in her private dermatology office on the Upper East Side of New York City. The treatment takes an hour to an hour and a half, depending on the location of the body and the size of the treated area; larger areas may take a bit longer. The treatment is entirely painless, and there is no numbing cream needed before the Thermage procedure.

Before the Thermage procedure, a grid is outlined on your face or body to delineate the complete treatment area. During the procedure, the handheld device is pressed repeatedly onto the outlined treatment area of your skin. As the adaptor touches your skin, you will initially feel a heat sensation followed by a cooling sensation. The heating sensation is a sign that the deep layers of the skin are reaching effective temperatures for skin tightening.

The Thermage treatment is entirely pain-free, and you’ll immediately observe an initial plumping of the skin. Thermage® requires no downtime so that you can resume all of your normal activities right away after treatment. There is no recovery time or special post-treatment care needed after your appointment.

Thermage® stimulates your body’s collagen in a single treatment. Some results may appear immediately after treatment, with improvements continuing in two to four months. Your skin will become smoother, firmer, and tighter as the new collagen production slows the aging process. Although individual results may vary, the effects of your treatment can last for up to two years, helping you look younger for longer.

How Does Thermage Work?

The Thermage treatment for skin tightening utilizes radiofrequency laser technology to boost collagen production for firmer, tighter skin. When the Thermage device is applied to the skin, it emits a beam of radiofrequency (RF) energy that heats the inner layer of the skin, also known as the dermis, while keeping the surface of the skin cool for maximum patient comfort during the treatment. When the dermis is heated, it triggers the body’s natural healing process, which promotes the production of new collagen over time. The increased amount of collagen production in the treatment area leads to the replacement of sagging, loose skin with firmer, smoother skin throughout 3 to 6 months. The results of the thermage skin tightening can also be partially seen right after the treatment session, as the heating of the dermis also causes the water molecules in the fibrous collagen present in the treatment area to separate, which leads to an immediate tightening of the skin.

What is Thermage FLX

There are several different kinds of tips that can be used for the Thermage applicator device, and the newest addition is Thermage FLX. Thermage FLX is the fourth generation of Thermage lasers and has been designed with maximum patient comfort in mind. New and innovative technology, known as AccuREP, works to create direct, precise delivery of radiofrequency energy, with the ability to adjust the pulses in real time. Vibrations paired with cooling technology also help to keep patients from experiencing discomfort throughout the procedure. The tip also differs from previous models in its size – the 4cm tip allows providers to cover 25% more surface area at a faster rate, making the newest generation of Thermage devices more ideal for areas such as the abdomen, thighs, and arms.

Thermage CPT treatment

Thermage CPT, which stands for Comfort Pulse Technology, is the third generation of Thermage treatment devices and has also been designed for maximum patient comfort. With a 3 cm tip, it is 33% smaller than Thermage FLX. It can, therefore, be used on more delicate areas that require even greater precision, such as around the eyes, for reducing hooding and eliminating crow’s feet. Both Thermage CPT and Thermage FLX use the same radiofrequency technology to tighten the skin, improve skin texture, and eliminate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Thermage CPT also employs skin surface cooling technology and a handpiece that vibrates to reduce the risk of any discomfort during the procedure.

What are the side effects of Thermage?

One of the greatest advantages associated with Thermage treatment is that this effective skin tightening laser tightens the skin without any side effects or downtime. Dr. Green will control the amount of radiofrequency energy used during the Thermage procedure to achieve maximum results while still maintaining maximum patient comfort. Thermage uses radiofrequency technology to heat the dermis, produce new collagen, and tighten the skin, all without any side effects, all within one single treatment session. The result will be brilliant facial rejuvenation with no recovery time. You are able to return to your normal activities the same day, unlike a surgical procedure. As far as potential side effects, most patients can expect a minimal amount of redness immediately upon completion of the Thermage procedure, which will typically resolve within an hour after the treatment session.

Who is a good candidate for Thermage?

The best candidates for Thermage® treatment are individuals who are in good general physical and mental health and who have noticed or would like to prevent signs of aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity, that their existing skincare routine isn’t able to keep up with. As a non-invasive treatment, Thermage® skin tightening treatment is also ideal for those patients who have realistic expectations about their achievable cosmetic results and who prefer subtle improvement rather than the more dramatic results typically seen with cosmetic plastic surgery. Thermage treatment for skin rejuvenation can be performed on all skin types and for patients of all ages. The accessibility of the treatment is also appealing to patients who do not want to undergo any surgical procedures. With plastic surgery, significant downtime is required, and there is a substantial risk of experiencing serious side effects. Thermage radiofrequency is able to achieve skin tightening results without the need for plastic surgery or any recovery time.

Can you have Thermage if you have a pacemaker?

No. The main contraindication for non-surgical skin tightening with Thermage treatment is having a pacemaker. Patients with a pacemaker, internal defibrillator, or another metal implant should not have skin tightening treatment with Thermage radiofrequency. Please inform Dr. Green during your initial consultation for facial rejuvenation or body contouring if you have a pacemaker, internal defibrillator, or another metal implant. When you consult with Dr. Green at her private dermatology office, located in the Upper East Side neighborhood of Manhattan, she will work with you to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for Thermage skin tightening treatment and help you create a customized treatment approach that incorporates the non-invasive treatment options best suited to addressing your unique skin concerns and achieving your optimal cosmetic results.

Can Thermage damage your skin?

Thermage radiofrequency technology for skin tightening is a safe and effective cosmetic procedure with no downtime required and minimal risk of any potential side effects. The heating of the dermal layers of the skin that occurs as a part of the skin tightening procedure is completely controlled and causes no damage whatsoever to the surface of the skin. The Thermage treatment applicators are designed with cooling technology to keep the outer layer of skin from experiencing any damage from the treatment. At most, some patients may see a mild amount of facial redness or some swelling in the treatment area immediately after the Thermage procedure is complete. Still, these symptoms typically resolve on their own within 24 hours. When you consult with an expert in non-invasive treatments like Thermage skin tightening, like Dr. Michele Green in NYC, you can expect to achieve outstanding cosmetic results that are natural-looking and long-lasting without worrying about encountering any unwanted side effects.

Does Thermage really work?

Thermage® is an FDA-approved technique that delivers radiofrequency energy to the deepest layers of the skin while simultaneously protecting the skin’s surface through a continuous cooling process. The radiofrequency energy works to heat collagen fibers deep in the dermis, which tightens the skin and stimulates renewed collagen production for several months after the treatment session. The result of the new collagen growth in the treatment area is an improvement in the visible signs of aging like crow’s feet, early jowls or “turkey neck,” and neck contouring to restore a more youthful appearance.

Can Thermage be used to treat my Turkey Neck?

Absolutely! Thermage is considered to be the gold standard treatment for skin laxity, including jowls and loose skin on the neck. Patients with a mild to moderate amount of skin laxity benefit most from treatment with Thermage. Patients with very severe loose skin on the neck may benefit more from a surgical skin tightening procedure, such as a neck lift or facelift. When you consult with board-certified cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Michele Green in New York City for your non-invasive skin tightening treatment plan, she will work with you to determine whether you are an ideal candidate for Thermage. Suppose the skin laxity is too severe to be treated successfully with Thermage. In that case, Dr. Green will refer you to a trusted board-certified plastic surgeon for a consultation for cosmetic surgery.

Does Thermage work on the face?

Thermage skin tightening treatment can be used on the face to improve skin laxity and address various signs of aging. One area of the face where signs of the natural aging process can be most apparent is around the eyes. As collagen production decreases, wrinkles can easily form at the corner of the eyes, in the form of crow’s feet, and sagging skin can create the appearance of bags under the eyes. Lax skin above the eyes can result in “hooding,” which is when sagging skin gathers above or on the upper eyelids. Additionally, sagging skin can create the appearance of jowls, causing the jawline to appear heavier. Thermage can be used to address all of these concerns on the face, tightening the skin and boosting collagen production for a more youthful appearance.

Is Thermage® just for the face?

No! The Thermage® treatment can be used on more than just the face. Thermage has two different handpieces, one specifically designed for the face and eye area to treat eye “hooding” and jowls to produce new collagen, and the second handpiece designed for the body today with skin tightening. Women may choose Thermage® to improve their post-pregnancy belly or minimize the appearance of cellulite, while men may turn to Thermage® to improve residual skin laxity due to age or following minor weight loss.

Which areas of the body does Thermage help with skin tightening?

Thermage can be used for skin tightening for all body parts, including arms, legs, buttocks, abdomen, and thighs. When you have your initial consultation with Dr. Green, you can discuss the areas of your body where you are experiencing sagging skin and cellulite, which can be addressed with Thermage skin tightening treatment. Dr. Green may also recommend pairing the Thermage treatment with other procedures to address each patient’s unique aesthetic goals and needs more fully. As a part of your consultation, Dr. Green will determine which Thermage RF tip would best suit your specific needs and establish a treatment schedule that works best for you.

Does Thermage work on the neck?

The neck is another area of the body that shows signs of the natural aging process, and Thermage can be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and tighten the skin there. One common concern that can be addressed with Thermage is what is frequently called the “turkey neck.” Turkey neck is the unflattering term for loose skin that develops under the chin and along the neck. For patients experiencing sagging skin on the neck, Thermage is the best way to tighten the skin and improve its texture.

Does Thermage work on the stomach?

Yes! Thermage can be used on the stomach to rejuvenate the appearance of the skin and reduce the signs of cellulite there. Typically, to address concerns on the stomach or abdomen, Dr. Green will use Thermage FLX, as the slightly bigger tip is best for treating a greater surface area. When the dermis is heated via radiofrequency energy, it triggers the body’s natural production of collagen in the area, which leads to skin cell turnover. As a result, the skin in the treatment area is smoother and firmer in texture.

How does Thermage treat cellulite?

Thermage treatment can also be used to reduce the appearance of cellulite across the body. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, cellulite affects nearly 90% of women in the United States. Cellulite occurs most frequently on the buttocks and thighs and takes on the appearance of dimpled or lumpy skin. The condition occurs when fibrous bands under the surface of the skin cause the subcutaneous fat accumulation in the area to stick out, which leads to a rippling effect on the skin. Thermage is one treatment that can be used to reduce signs of cellulite by thickening the skin and creating a smoother texture. Thermage can also be paired with QWO treatment for treating cellulite.

Can I combine Thermage with other facial rejuvenation procedures?

Because Thermage® only corrects the laxity of the skin, other signs of aging may require a different procedure. For example, age spots can be diminished with a resurfacing treatment like chemical peels or Fraxel Dual Laser Resurfacing, while deep lines and wrinkles may require a dermal filler. Many patients choose to have Botox and dermal fillers such as Juvederm right after their Thermage procedure. Juvederm is one of many types of dermal fillers available at Dr. Green’s dermatology office. Dermal fillers work primarily to restore lost volume in the face. They can take the form of hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Juvederm and Restylane, poly-L-lactic acid fillers, such as Sculptra, or calcium hydroxyapatite fillers, such as Radiesse. As we age and collagen production decreases, volume loss can occur in many areas of the face, including in the mid-face, resulting in sunken cheeks and under the eyes. With Thermage used to tighten the skin, dermal fillers can provide volume to sunken areas and fill in deep lines and wrinkles.

If you notice excess pockets of fat in addition to skin laxity, Dr. Green may also recommend CoolSculpting® or Kybella to fine-tune your figure. Even with a healthy diet and a consistent exercise routine, stubborn fat can remain in places such as the neck, back, arms, thighs, abdomen, and buttocks. CoolSculpting is a body-shaping procedure that uses a process called cryolipolysis to destroy stubborn fat cells in the treatment area. A fat bulge is placed between two panels on the applicator, cooling the fat to a freezing temperature. As fat cells freeze at a higher temperature than the surrounding tissue, only the fat cells are affected. When the fat cells rupture, the body’s natural metabolizing process is triggered, and the cells are broken down and eliminated. CoolSculpting can provide as much as a 25% reduction in fat concentration per treatment.

Kybella is another procedure available at Dr. Green’s office, which works to eliminate stubborn fat without the need for surgery or incision. Kybella is the first injectable fat reduction treatment, which works via the injection of deoxycholic acid. When the solution is injected into the treatment area, the deoxycholic acid works to destroy the membrane of fat cells in the area, which are then metabolized by the body, reducing the concentration of fat. Kybella is ideal for use on moderate to severe pockets of fat and can be paired with both CoolSculpting and Thermage.

What should I expect during Thermage treatment?

Depending on the size of the treatment area, your appointment can last between 45 to 90 minutes. Dr. Green will begin by marking a grid in the treatment area to mark where the Thermage handpiece will be applied to your skin. When Dr. Green touches the device to your skin, you’ll feel a deep heating sensation followed by a cooling sensation on the skin’s surface. The cooling function and vibrations of the Thermage handpiece serve to provide you with maximum comfort during the treatment. After your appointment, you can immediately return to your routine without any downtime. You may experience some minimal erythema at the treatment area, but these symptoms will resolve on their own within an hour after receiving the treatment. Dr. Green recommends wearing sunscreen outside in the weeks following the procedure as your skin may be more sensitive.

What to do after Thermage treatment

Thermage is a safe and effective treatment that is not associated with any serious side effects and does not require any downtime. Some patients may experience some redness after the treatment that will resolve shortly after the procedure. Following the non-invasive procedure, Dr. Green recommends practicing strict sun avoidance by wearing sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher whenever you go outside and reapplying every two hours that you are in the sun. You can also practice sun avoidance by wearing protective clothing, such as a wide-brimmed hat and long sleeves. Dr. Green also recommends keeping the skin hydrated following the treatment by applying a gentle cleanser twice daily.

What not to do after Thermage treatment

To maintain the results of the treatment and keep your skin from getting irritated, it is important to avoid certain activities after Thermage treatment. Staying out of the sun is important for maintaining the results of the treatment and preventing the appearance of signs of the natural aging process. As such, it is best to avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds after your Thermage treatment. Dr. Green also recommends avoiding hot environments, such as hot showers, steam rooms, saunas, and strenuous exercise for at least three days post-treatment.

How long does Thermage take to work?

Most men and women see an immediate “glow” after treatment, along with a plumper, firmer look to their complexion. As collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin increases, you should continue seeing improvements over the next few months. Most patients enjoy their results for up to two or three years.

55-64 Year old woman treated with Thermage and CoolSculpting – 6 months

How long will Thermage last?

Thermage is a long-lasting, non-invasive treatment with no downtime required following the procedure. Thermage results can last for up to two years before the effects of the treatment fade. The Thermage treatment can be repeated once a year, so Dr. Green often recommends scheduling an annual treatment with Thermage to maintain the best cosmetic results and increase collagen production in your skin.

How much does Thermage cost?

The cost of Thermage treatment depends on several factors, including your geographic location, the area of the body you are treating, and the type of institution at which you receive treatment. The cost of Thermage treatment will be higher if you are looking to address concerns on multiple areas of your body and if you are pairing the Thermage treatment with other treatments. After your initial consultation with Dr. Green, where you discuss your goals and a treatment plan is established, her office will be able to provide you with a closer estimate of the cost of your treatment. Additionally, the cost can vary based on the type of institution where you seek Thermage treatment. A MedSpa may be more inexpensive, but receiving treatment from a board-certified dermatologist, such as Dr. Green, will provide you with a higher quality of care.

New Thermage FLX

Thermage FLX is the fourth generation of Solta’s Thermage radiofrequency skin-tightening laser device. As the newest generation of the Thermage treatment device, the FLX is equipped with advanced AccuRep technology for incredibly precise treatment. The AccuREP technology automatically calibrates Thermage to deliver the appropriate amount of energy in each pulse for even dispersion of radiofrequency energy and consistently optimal rejuvenation treatment results. Thermage FLX is also equipped with a larger treatment tip, which helps shorten the length of treatment time and enhances patient comfort. Treatments with both the Thermage CPT and Thermage FLX will provide patients with skin-tightening results in as little as just one treatment session. In her boutique, private dermatology office located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Dr. Green offers treatment with both Thermage CPT and Thermage FLX devices. When you consult with Dr. Green, she will discuss your skin concerns and aesthetic preferences with you in-depth so that you can design a treatment approach that incorporates the best specially formulated skin care products and non-invasive in-office treatments for you.

Who is Solta Medical?

Solta Medical is a branch of Bausch Health, a globally prominent leader in the field of medical aesthetic devices, including Thermage radiofrequency, Fraxel Dual laser, and Clear + Brilliant. All of these non-invasive treatments for cosmetic rejuvenation are available at the private dermatology office of Dr. Michele Green in the Upper East Side neighborhood of Manhattan. Fraxel, manufactured by Solta Medical, was the first fractionated laser of its kind. The technology behind Fraxel is revolutionary because it can accurately treat thousands of microscopic areas of the skin with pinpoint laser precision. The controlled, targeted micro-injuries in the skin created by Fraxel induce the natural wound-healing process of the skin, resulting in the production of new collagen. Fraxel is designed to treat overall pigmentation, brown spots, sun spots, sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, skin texture, enlarged pore size, acne scars, and surgical scars.

Clear + Brilliant was FDA-approved in 2011 to treat the visible signs of aging, sun damage, and skin texture. Clear + Brilliant works via fractionated laser technology, which is designed to create millions of tiny microscopic treatment zones to stimulate new collagen formation and generate new, healthy skin. Clear + Brilliant laser treatment is a gentle yet effective skin resurfacing treatment, which is ideal for patients of all skin types. Not only does Clear + Brilliant improve the appearance of pore size, pigmentation, fine lines, and acne scars, but it also improves the overall complexion.

Why is Thermage the gold standard for skin tightening?

Thermage is considered to be the gold standard treatment for non-invasive skin tightening due to its consistently stunning results, the ease of having a treatment session, and the fact that there is zero downtime involved whatsoever. Thermage radiofrequency treatment can be used to improve skin laxity in the face, neck, chest, décolletage, upper arms, abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. The leading competitor for non-invasive skin tightening, Ultherapy, is limited to treating the face and chest and is a much more painful non-invasive treatment than the Thermage procedure. The radiofrequency energy of Thermage delivers heat to the dermal layers of the skin, remodeling the existing collagen and stimulating new collagen production in the skin. The result is firmer, tighter, smoother skin and a natural-looking, more youthful appearance. Ultherapy relies on ultrasound energy, which penetrates layers of the skin at a greater depth than Thermage treatment. This makes Ultherapy painful, and one of the potential side effects is underlying fat loss in the treatment area. For these reasons, Dr. Green recommends Thermage treatment over Ultherapy.

Does Thermage hurt?

Many patients ask, Is Thermage painful? And the answer is no! Thermage treatment is not painful, and there is no need for any topical numbing prior to preparation for the procedure. The Thermage radiofrequency skin tightening treatment relies on heat to achieve the skin tightening effect, and patients may experience some slight discomfort simply due to the sensation of heat on the skin’s surface. The advanced AccuREP technology and larger treatment tip size of the Thermage FLX device, however, allow for a faster treatment time, enhanced patient comfort, and ideal cosmetic results.

Is Thermage safe?

Thermage radiofrequency laser treatment is a very safe and effective procedure. Often referred to as the Gold Standard for skin tightening, Thermage provides patients with long-lasting results without the need for any downtime. There are no side effects associated with the treatment, though patients may experience some redness for a couple of hours post-treatment. The newest generation of Thermage devices works with AccuREP technology for precise delivery of radiofrequency energy. This AccuREP technology, paired with the cooling mechanism on the device, helps to decrease discomfort during treatment as well.

Which is safer: Thermage or Ultherapy?

Many patients wonder Which is better: Thermage or Ultherapy? Both treatment options boost collagen production for smoother, tighter skin. However, they differ in their mechanism of action. Where Thermage uses radiofrequency laser technology to create controlled thermal damage to the tissue, triggering the body’s healing response, Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy. While Ultherapy ultrasound technology can penetrate deeper layers of the dermis to boost collagen production, Ultherapy is more painful than Thermage. Ultherapy can also cause unwanted side effects, such as unintentional loss of fat tissue in the treatment area. Additionally, Ultherapy can only be used on the face and chest, whereas Thermage can be safely used on all areas of the body.

Which is better: Thermage or Microneedling?

Thermage and Microneedling Collagen-induction therapy are two popular treatments at Dr. Green’s office, and neither one is inherently “better” than the other. Thermage is an excellent, long-lasting treatment for tightening the skin and improving skin texture, reducing the appearance of signs of the natural aging process. Microneedling is a treatment in which surgical-grade needles are used to pierce the skin, creating micro-wounds that trigger the body’s natural collagen production response. Microneedling can be used for many purposes, including reducing the appearance of acne scars, fine lines, large pores, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage and improving skin tone and texture overall. Microneedling can tighten the skin as well, but the results are not as dramatic as those of Thermage radiofrequency treatment. When you have your initial consultation with Dr. Green, she will examine the treatment area and make a recommendation about the treatment option that will best meet your aesthetic goals.

Does Thermage melt fat?

Thermage is the gold standard for skin tightening treatment but is not used to dissolve fat. To eliminate stubborn pockets of fat, Dr. Green will most often turn to Kybella. Kybella is the first injectable treatment that can be used to dissolve fat cells. FDA-approved to treat submental fat in 2015, Kybella uses the active ingredient deoxycholic acid to break down the membrane of fat cells, causing them to be metabolized and eliminated by the body. Kybella is approved for use under the chin and on the neck to reduce the appearance of jowls and a double chin.

When do you see Thermage results?

Thermage skin tightening treatment boosts the body’s natural collagen production to improve skin laxity, meaning that the results of the treatment will continue to improve over time. Immediately after the treatment, patients will see some improvement in skin texture. However, the full results of the treatment will become visible two to four months post-procedure as collagen production creates smoother, more evenly-textured skin.

Is Thermage permanent?

Thermage is a long-lasting skin tightening treatment option that provides patients with smooth, tight skin for up to two years post-procedure. Thermage radiofrequency treatments help to reduce signs of aging for up to two years, with some patients experiencing treatment results for up to three years. Dr. Green recommends that patients schedule maintenance appointments annually for the best results.

How many Thermage treatments are needed?

Most patients only require one treatment session for excellent, long-lasting skin tightening results. Thermage treatment uses radiofrequency technology to heat the inner layer of skin, boosting the body’s natural healing response, which increases collagen production for smoother, tighter skin. Some patients with more moderate skin laxity may need two Thermage treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, to obtain optimal results. Dr. Green recommends that patients schedule annual touch-up appointments to maintain the treatment results.

Is Thermage worth it?

Thermage is a highly regarded skin tightening treatment that provides patients with long-lasting anti-aging results without the risk of side effects or the need for any recovery time. Thermage has been extensively studied, with more than 50 clinical studies demonstrating its safety and effectiveness in boosting collagen production and decreasing skin laxity. With constantly evolving technology, Thermage provides the highest quality patient comfort that is safe for patients of all skin types. To find out if Thermage treatment is right for you, schedule a consultation appointment with Dr. Green, who will recommend the treatment plan that will be best for you.

Which non-invasive skin tightening procedure is the best?

Thermage treatment is considered the gold standard when it comes to non-surgical skin tightening. Ultherapy is the most popular non-surgical skin tightening alternative to Thermage treatment. However, it is associated with a greater amount of discomfort and more potential side effects than Thermage. The Ultherapy procedure relies on Ultrasound energy, rather than radiofrequency technology, to stimulate new collagen production. Ultherapy laser treatment penetrates the skin at much deeper levels than the Thermage does, which can make the procedure considerably more painful for the patient. One of the potential risks associated with Ultherapy is that it can “melt” underlying fat in a treatment area because of the depth at which the energy treats the skin. This effect can ultimately result in an undesirable or unwanted cosmetic result. Thermage radiofrequency treatment can not cause any such side effect, as it does not penetrate the skin at depths that would impact the structure of underlying fat. Ultherapy is only FDA-approved for treating the chin, neck, brow, and décolletage. Thermage is a skin-tightening laser treatment that is FDA-approved for use on multiple areas of the body, including the eye area, as well as all areas of the face.

Does Thermage tighten skin?

Thermage is the “gold standard” non-invasive procedure for skin tightening that is designed to firm up the skin in a single treatment without any downtime. Thermage relies on radiofrequency energy that is delivered to the skin’s surface via the application of a handheld device. Radiofrequency energy stimulates the lower layers of the skin with heat without disturbing or damaging the surface of the skin. The process of heating the skin, in turn, induces new collagen production in the treatment area. Thermage treatment has no downtime and only requires one single treatment to rejuvenate loose skin. By encouraging new collagen growth in the skin, Thermage is able to revitalize sagging skin, leading to smoother, firmer, and tighter skin at and around the treatment area. Thermage can be used on the neck, jowls, lower face, and other areas of the body, such as the arms, thighs, abdomen, and buttocks.

How to get started with Thermage skin tightening in NYC today?

Part of the natural aging process entails that collagen in the skin begins to break down. Collagen is a naturally occurring protein in the skin that provides it with a firm foundation, enhanced structural support, and an overall more youthful appearance. When collagen levels in the skin start to deplete, patients may observe increased skin laxity. Sagging, crepey skin can be a tell-tale sign of the natural aging process and can further emphasize other signs of aging, such as wrinkles, fine lines, and cellulite, across the body. For many, developing such signs of aging may induce feelings of self-consciousness. Plastic surgery is not a feasible option for everyone who is looking for a solution to sagging and loose skin. Luckily, thanks to advancements made in the field of cosmetic dermatology, there is a non-surgical, non-invasive cosmetic treatment option for skin tightening that is painless and is not associated with any incisions or downtime.

Thermage radiofrequency treatment helps to tighten the skin, improve overall skin texture, reduce signs of cellulite, fine lines, and wrinkles, and provide patients with a youthful appearance in just a single treatment session.
