Do’s and Don’ts After Getting a Tattoo? Dr. Green & Greatist

Dr. Michele Green was quoted in Greatist, as they look at the Do’s and Don’ts for what you should do after getting a new tattoo in “Your Complete Guide to Tattoo Aftercare.” It looks at what to expect from day one post-tattoo and the weeks after.

As its a personal statement that will stick around forever, its important to take care of it (though we do have laser tattoo removals, this can take much longer than the tattoo itself).  The biggest mistake people make with new tattoos? Not using sunblock and exposing the tattoo to sunlight.

“It is very important to use a protective ointment that would have no irritating chemicals in it,” explains Dr. Green. “The goal of using an ointment after a tattoo is to let the scab heal and provide a layer of emollient to allow this healing to occur.”
