“Is It Bad to Wear Makeup to the Gym?” Short answer would be yes it would be bad, especially if you have a skin condition or dry skin already but also the use of make up may lead to lower sebum levels on the skin, which can lead to itchiness or flakiness. A recent study, published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, showed wearing make up such as foundation while sweating may lead to skin irritation. “Wearing makeup at the gym is not recommended in terms of skin health,” notes Dr. Green in the article today at Very Well Health titled – “Is It Bad to Wear Makeup to the Gym? Not only can it trap sweat bacteria, but in most cases “gyms are warm and damp, making them the perfect environment for acne-causing bacteria to grow,” Green explained. “Trapped sweat can lead to skin inflammation and irritation, especially for individuals with skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea.
