Vicks VapoRub contains four active ingredients: Camphor, Turpentine oil, Levomenthol and Eucalyptus oil. But what does that even mean? Dr. Green spoke with Refinery 29 to see what its true uses are. And no, it is not an all purpose solution despite what your grandparents might say.

In fact, even Procter & Gamble Co, the parent company of Vicks, notes that “Vicks VapoRub is a topical cough suppressant, for external use only.” And that “it can also be used to temporarily relieve minor aches and pains on muscles and joints.” But in the Latinx community, its been given more looks beyond its traditional uses, even used to help fake tears occur from Telenovela actresses and actors on TV (which we also do not recommend!)

So can it fight Acne, Chapped Lips or Sunburn? No. Find out why in the interview on Refinery 29 – where Thatiana Diaz talks with Dr. Green about this and her dermatology work with Latinx patients.
