NAD Supplements: Do They Work? – Health.com
NAD, or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide has grown in popularity thanks to TikTok, and while it is a naturally occurring molecule found in all living cells, supplements for it have had people claiming younger skin than ever due to how NAD “plays an essential role in metabolism and energy creation within the body.” Dr. Green is quoted a few times in the article “NAD Supplements Are the Latest Thing in Anti-Aging—Do They Work?” on health.com today and talks about how it works overall to potentially reduce fatigue.
Healthy NAD levels have also been linked to higher energy production and cognitive function too, but Dr Green notes that levels may drop by about 50% by the time people reach middle age and “this decrease alters the body’s metabolism and can exacerbate the signs of aging.” Popular supplements include a form of vitamin B3 called nicotinamide riboside (NR).8 NR is a “precursor to NAD, and is often taken to supplement NAD levels,” Green said. While Nicotinamide nononucleotide (NMN) is the second – however “some research also indicates that NMN molecules must be converted into NR molecules before they can enter the cells due to NMNs’ large size.”
What’s the right level for you? It depends on various factors, and so you should consult your healthcare provider beforehand. View the full article at https://www.health.com/nad-supplements-trend-anti-aging-8783551
