The Best Lip Fillers in NYC: Before and After Photos
One of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the world today is that of lip enhancement. From Kylie Jenner to high-powered New York execs, lip augmentation has allowed patients to reduce the appearance of aging and improve the fullness of their lips. Non-invasive treatments like lip fillers can create a luscious pout without the need for any downtime or invasive plastic surgery, and can help to sculpt a natural-looking, plump lip.
Our patients have been able to enjoy natural-looking, revitalized lips thanks to the artful hand of board-certified dermatologist Dr. Michele Green. Dr. Green is an expert in cosmetic injectable treatments, and has been working with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers for lip enhancement since its inception. Her skilled hand and natural approach to cosmetic injections have made her one of the most sought-after cosmetic dermatologists, both in New York and abroad.
Here is a close look at some of Dr. Green’s favorite before and after photos for lip enhancement, which helps to showcase just how successful hyaluronic acid dermal fillers really are. Dr. Green has been a leader in lip injections for over 25 years, incorporating the latest techniques and innovations in cosmetic dermatology. Voted one of the best doctors in New York Magazine and Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors in New York, it is no wonder that Dr. Green is called the “lip queen” in NYC.
Lip Augmentation: Before and After
When it comes to lip augmentation, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers have become the go-to option in the world of dermatology. The injection of dermal fillers is a minimally-invasive procedure which is able to reduce the appearance of aging by correcting age-related volume loss in the midface, around the mouth, and even on the hands. Dermal fillers are able to replace collagen loss in the treatment area and restore and boost volume in areas such as the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and lines on the lips themselves (vertical lip lines). Dermal fillers can also be combined with other non-invasive injectables, such as Botox or Kybella, in order to create pan-facial rejuvenation.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are a unique type of filler in that uses a naturally-occurring substance in the body, hyaluronic acid, to stimulate targeted collagen production at or near the injection site, which in turn can create smooth, natural-looking volume on the lips. Patients typically see results right after their procedure, which continue to improve over the course of several days, and can enjoy their luscious pout for six months to a full year, as the body slowly metabolizes the hyaluronic acid over time. Additionally, hyaluronic acid injections are completely dissolvable, thanks to the naturally-occurring enzyme hyaluronidase. Safe, simple, and reversible? Truly a dream cosmetic procedure.
Juvederm Ultra Plus: Before and After
Juvederm Ultra Plus Filler, Before and After, 40-year old female
Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid family of products that offers a several different volume-boosting formulations for lip enhancement. Juvederm Volbella, Juvederm Ultra, and Juvederm Ultra Plus are all popular options for those looking for volumizing results that still maintain a natural aesthetic. Additionally, Juvederm creates formulations, such as Juvederm Voluma, designed to correct age related volume-loss in the midface, which can help to rejuvenate the overall look of the face.
Juvederm Ultra Plus is a popular lip filler as it offers an innovative cross-linking technology that helps to bind the hyaluronic acid to the skin cells, creating a smooth and silky look to lip augmentation. This provides maximum volume and clear definition to the lips. Our patient in the photo above relied on Juvederm Ultra Plus to provide long sought-after volume to her lips, which in turn helped to rejuvenate the lips, reducing the appearance of vertical lip lines.
Balancing the lips and Correcting Asymmetry: Before and After
Juvederm Ultra Plus Lip Injections, Before and After, 28 year-old female
One of the unique aspects of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers is that they can be used to balance out differences in volume, including the correction or lessening of natural asymmetry in the lips. Many patients find that they prefer to see a sculpted upper lip, and desire less fullness in the lower lip, and lip fillers are flexible enough to not only meet these needs, but to help correct naturally-occurring asymmetry that can be a frustrating look for many patients. The patient above received Juvederm Ultra Plus lip injections to correct subtle asymmetry along one side of the upper lip, as well as a plumper look to the lips as a whole.
Additionally, when it comes to Juvederm’s family of hyaluronic acid filler products, there are several formulations that are designed to improve the look of the wrinkles and folds around the mouth, including Juvederm Vollure and Juvederm XC injectable gels. Both Juvederm Vollure and Juvederm XC can be used to improve moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds (from the base of the nose to the corners of the mouth) and marionette lines (from the corners of the lips down to the chin).
Restylane: Before and After
Restylane is another excellent hyaluronic acid family of products that has tailor-made lip injection formulations. Restylane Silk and Restylane Kysse can both be used to create plumper, more define lips to wondrous effect. The patient in the photo above received traditional Restylane lip filler injections to create a plumper pout that accentuates her smile.
Restylane has several additional formulations in its family of hyaluronic acid fillers that can be used to rejuvenate the skin in the mouth area. Restylane Lyft, Restylane Refyne, and Restylane Defyne can all be used to create a more youthful appearance on the skin, reducing the appearance of nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and other fine lines around the mouth.
Creating elegant definition and lip rejuvenation with Restylane

Both Juvederm and Restylane can be used to create plump lips that help to define the cupid’s bow of the upper lip, and this definition can turn back the clock on the look of aging lips, or provide those with thinner lips a welcome boost. Restylane differs slightly from Juvederm in terms of its particle size. Due to this, many patients who use Restylane can successfully seek out a more subtle lip enhancement look. In this photo, the patient received traditional Restylane in the lips in order to correct age-related volume loss in the lips, and this in turn led to a more defined cupid’s bow, a plumper lower lip, and the reduction of fine lines along the lips.
Advice for First Time Patients
For first time patients, injectable treatments can be nerve-wracking. However, Dr. Green makes sure to work carefully with all of her patients to ensure that they get the results they are hoping for. When you work with Dr. Green, you’ll first do a consultation where you can talk about your individual needs and aesthetic goals, as well as your medical history to ensure that hyaluronic acid lip fillers are right for you. Then, Dr. Green will study the natural contouring of your face to target the best injection area.
During treatment, many first-time patients worry about pain, but both Restylane and Juvederm have formulations that include lidocaine to ease any discomfort from the needle. Additionally, a topical anesthetic (numbing cream) can be applied to make you as comfortable as possible. Treatment times for lip injections typically take around fifteen minutes, and you can resume normal activity right after your procedure, though we recommend you avoid any intense exercise or heat exposure (such as a sauna).

Dr. Green’s “Less is More” Approach
Restylane Lip Injections, 2 weeks, Before and After, 1 syringe of Restylane
Dr. Green tends to use a “less is more” technique in terms of the amount of filler, particularly for first-time patients, so that they can evaluate the results of their initial injections before committing to the use of a full vial. The patient in the photo above received 1 syringe of traditional Restylane lip filler formulation, showcasing how a little can go a tremendously long way when it comes to lip enhancement. Here, Dr. Green has concentrated the Restylane lip filler into the lips in order to plump the upper and lower lip, which has also improved the definition of the cupid’s bow.
Dr. Green offers flexibility that can allow you to take full advantage of your Juvederm, Restylane, or other hyaluronic acid lip enhancement treatment. She typically recommends that patients return to her office two weeks after their initial treatment, in order to determine if more filler should be added.
Combination dermal fillers
Some patients opt to use multiple injectable treatments at tailored injection sites in the treatment area in order to maximize the results of their treatment. Patients have had great success using targeted dermal filler in the nasolabial folds, with an alternate dermal filler formulation used in the lips, in order to provide the best overall rejuvenation.
Additionally, dermal filler treatments can be combined with other rejuvenating treatments such as Botox, or other skincare procedures like skin resurfacing lasers, such as Fraxel laser, in order to further restore a youthful appearance. When it comes to restoring a more youthful appearance to the face, many patients will opt for lip filler injections, Juvederm Voluma or Restylane Lyft for subtle volume restoration in the midface, along with with Botox for dynamic wrinkles or crow’s feet near the eyes. Additionally, Dr. Green’s Aquagold Microneedling treatment and PRP with microneedling can offer revitalization of the skin, along with some of the volume enhancement and wrinkle reduction benefits of injectables like Restylane, Juvederm, and Botox, with virtually no downtime.
Lip Injections: Before Care and Aftercare
In order to experience the best results from your lip enhancement treatment, it’s important for you to prepare by avoiding any blood thinners (such as ibuprofen or fish oil supplements), and to make sure you arrive well-hydrated and with a “fresh” face (no makeup). In terms of the experience immediately after your procedure, you may experience side effects such as mild swelling or redness, but this should dissipate over the course of the next few days, revealing your radiant new look. Oftentimes, patients will meet with Dr. Green about two weeks post-treatment, in order to determine if any further lip augmentation is desired.
How to reduce the risk of side effects
The best way to ensure a positive and safe lip injection experience is by working with an experienced, board-certified injector. Board-certified plastic surgeons and dermatologists are the best qualified to perform hyaluronic acid lip filler injections. A skilled certified cosmetic dermatologist, such as Dr. Green, can ensure that you’ll be safe from harmful side effects that can occur from unsafe injection technique, such as injections into a blood vessel. These types of careless errors are far more common with inexperienced injectors, such as those you might find at a medspa. Dr. Green has over two decades of experience working with cosmetic injectables, and the safety and satisfaction of her patients is her top priority.
If you’re frustrated with the appearance of aging or thin lips, or are interested in subtle, natural-looking lip enhancement, Dr. Green is here to help. A leader in non-invasive cosmetic procedures, with patients both locally and internationally, Dr. Green will help give you the best cosmetic results.
