CNN asks Dr. Green about Dermatologist-Approved Products for Hair Loss & Thinning

CNN underscored spoke with Dr. Green today in “15 dermatologist-approved hair growth products to help with hair loss and thinning” where she is asked about hair loss and causes. We are of course losing some hair daily – it is natural to lose 50-100 hairs a day, However, excessive shedding — also known as telogen effluvium — can occur for a number of reasons, including stressful events in life. “As the stressor is removed, the body will adjust and the excessive shedding will cease,” says Dr. Green in the CNN piece. “Months later, your hair should be able to restore its normal density.”

Discussing the difference between hair loss and hair thinning, she also states that “while thinning hair can look like hair loss, it is actually a decrease in the diameter of the hair, which creates a thinner appearance.” The best way to find out which might apply to you is to schedule an appointment with your dermatologist, because the earlier hair loss is detected, the more effective treatments can be. And like most other natural health recommendations, “eating a well-balanced diet rich in proteins, leafy greens and healthy fats will provide your body with the nutrients necessary for healthy hair.”

She also gets asked about the use of Rosemary Oil for hair in “Does rosemary oil for hair growth really work? We asked 3 dermatologists to find out” where Dr. Green notes “Its anti-inflammatory properties can help alleviate and prevent hair loss caused by inflammation of the hair follicles and scalp.”
