What is Juvederm?
Juvederm is a dermal filler that has been formulated to help add volume to the face, specifically around the cheek and chin area. As a part of the natural aging process, when we get older a person’s cheeks can take on a sunken look or have a thinner appearance. To combat this, Juvederm helps restore facial features to give a more youthful appearance. This filler helps to restore the contours of the skin by plumping the face, cheeks and chin area.
Am I a candidate?
The best candidates for Juvederm filler treatments are in general good health mentally and physically, yet may have concerns over their complexion such as lines and wrinkles.
Juvederm is an ideal filling agent for those with moderate wrinkles in the cheeks and also for those people with moderately severe nasolabial folds (smile lines).
Juvederm can also be used to help define the lips and make them appear fuller. In addition to this, Juvederm can be used to help minimize the appearance of some forms of facial scarring.
Those who have allergies or existing skin conditions should discuss these issues with their dermatologist prior to treatment. In addition to this women who are pregnant or are currently breast-feeding are advised to avoid Juvederm treatment.
How does Juvederm work?
Juvederm is a smooth gel containing hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that is also found naturally occurring in your skin. Over time as a person ages, the hyaluronic acid in the skin is absorbed into the body. To help replenish the hyaluronic acid in the skin Juvederm is injected into the treatment area, typically into the wrinkles or sunken areas of the face and this gives a person a more youthful appearance.
Is Juvederm just for the cheek and chin?
Juvederm is typically best used to treat wrinkles and the area around the nasolabial folds. However Juvederm can also be used to make a person’s lips look fuller and also treat moderate scarring. Your dermatologist can advise you whether Juvederm is the most suitable treatment in your own particular case.
Can I combine Juvederm with other cosmetic procedures?
Certain treatments such as Botox work well in combination with Juvederm as these two treatments are complementary and work on different areas of the face. If you are considering undergoing other treatments at the same time such as laser resurfacing treatment, then a patient could use Juvederm as a secondary procedure to further compliment the laser resurfacing treatment.
What should I expect during treatment?
Numbing medication will typically be used to help improve your comfort during the Juvederm procedure. There may be some mild discomfort that is associated with needles and being injected, and there may be a mild to moderate amount of stinging post-injection. After the Juvederm treatment a patient should expect to feel some minor pain, tenderness, redness, swelling that will last a few days.
How soon until I see the results?
With filler treatments such as Juvederm there can be some minor swelling and bruising, however results can be seen almost immediately. After a week, most of the swelling should be resolved and the full effects of the treatment will be revealed.
How long does the Juvederm treatment last?
Depending on the treatment area and the individual, patients can expect the results from a Juvederm treatment to last up to a year.
