If you are like so many of us and hate your thighs and dread the Summer months – because it is bathing suit time – then we may finally have the answer for you! Every one of us has one thing about their body that they don’t like and wish that they could made smaller or tighter, or just a little bit different. Many women, in particular, hate their thighs.
While it is easy to tone certain areas of the body, it seems that the thighs are very difficult to change. There are times that more exercise like spinning or cycling or running can actually make your thighs bigger and more muscular and appear larger. Even the fat above the knee is an area that seems to be next to impossible to minimize with exercise. Enter CoolSculpting with the new applicators for the inner thighs, outer thighs, and the area of fat above the knee.
CoolSculpting has been “freezing the fat” in different areas for years. In 2014 the FDA approved the new CoolSmooth applicator which is a unique non-vacuum based cooling that easily treats the outer thighs. In a recent study 86% of patients noticed visible fat reduction after just one treatment and 89% said that they would recommend CoolSculpting to a friend (Source: Zeltiq). Combining the CoolSmooth with the Coolfit applicator which treats the inner thighs makes having Summer ready thighs a simple and painless procedure which takes about an hour! The Cool-Mini applicator which was introduced in 2016 is perfect for reducing the fat bulges above the knee. Dr. Michele Green has every one of the newest applicators and has been one of the first to use these in NYC since their launch. The new CoolPetite was just introduced in 2017 to treat those stubborn areas of fat in the upper arms as well.
What is the advantage of Coolsculpting?
The first advantage of CoolSculpting is that the entire procedure is painless and takes an hour or less per session depending on the area. Unlike liposuction which requires anesthesia and a painful recovery, there is absolutely no “down time” for CoolSculpting and you can go back to work or exercise the same day as your procedure. You may begin to notice the results in a few weeks but it will usually take up to four months to see the full effects from your CoolSculpting procedure.
*Disclaimer: Results may vary with each patient.
How does CoolSculpting work?
Coolsculpting is essentially the manifestation of the “popsicle” phenomenon where fat is “frozen” in a given area. The procedure allows you to cool down the layer of fat just below the skin to near-freezing temperatures and the fat cells slowly die over the next four months. When the fat is “frozen”, they cannot grow back in that same area. This technology allows us to customize a treatment protocol to various areas of the body from your “double chin”, bra fat, stomach, love handles, flanks, “banana rolls’, arms, inner and outer thighs, among other areas.
Does Coolsculpting tighten skin?
With CoolSculpting you gradually lose the bulge in a given area so that there is no skin laxity. The skin gradually tightens with the fat bulge that is reduced. However, CoolSculpting is not a skin tightening laser. We often combine CoolSculpting with skin tightening lasers such as Thermage to tighten the skin around the knees, buttocks, arms, thighs, jowls, and other areas. A combination approach usually gives the best cosmetic result, but it is important to discuss all options with Dr. Green first.
What other treatments can be used on my legs before the Summer?
Patients who are concerned with dark spots and spider veins often choose to have IPL, Fraxel, V-Beam, or Sclerotherapy injections for their legs before the Summer months as well. Through a combination of lasers you can remove redness, veins, sun spots and irregular texture on your legs with almost no discomfort or “down time”.
