What You Need To Know About Cold Sores And Herpes – Buzzfeed
Caroline Kee of Buzzfeed talks about Cold Sores with Dr. Michele Green. Find out what the difference between cold sores and herpes is (spoiler alert: there is none), and how they can be treated.
“Cold sores are most often caused by HSV-1, and we used to think they were only caused by HSV-1 but we now know that HSV-2 can also cause sores on the mouth or you can have both types or herpes, it’s just less common,” Dr. Michele Green, tells BuzzFeed Health.
They also discuss the difference between cold sores and canker sores and how a majority of people have it, but often do not realize it. For instance, “Cold sores usually appear when the immune system is stressed — so when you’re sick, fighting another virus or infection, have a debilitating cancer, or fatigued.” Cold sores can also occur in people if their body is stressed, like after surgery or too much sun exposure.
