PRP and Alopecia interview with Dr. Green in Hair.com
Hair.com by Loreal featured Dr. Green in an article the other day, titled “PRP: The Alopecia Treatment That Uses Your Blood For Hair Regrowth.”
Jelani Addams Rosa discusses PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) and how it can benefit those suffering from alopecia.
From looking at how PRP works, for instance, Dr. Green mentions “It is hypothesized that “PRP contains cells called platelets that causes the growth of the hair follicles by stimulating the stem cells and the microenvironment of the hair follicles.” However, to be a candidate there has to be some hair to begin with. Someone who is completely bald would not be as well suited.
It is also not a one time treatment. For example Dr. Green recommends returning for maintenance injections every three to six months moving forward. Find out more, including the potential costs of PRP, along with any risks or side effects associated with PRP.
There are only preliminary studies as this is a relatively new procedure, but Dr. Green notes, “I can tell you anecdotally from the patients I’ve done, they’re really some of my happiest patients,” Dr. Green says.
