Thermage is a skin-tightening treatment that utilizes radiofrequency technology in order to smooth fine lines and wrinkles via the formation of new collagen. It can be performed in several parts of the face, including the neck and eye area. It’s becoming increasingly popular for skin tightening on body areas such as on the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. This in turn helps create a more youthful appearance by helping to contour the body. Find out more about how Thermage works via this video.
How Long Does Thermage Take & How Many Treatments Are Needed?
Thermage treatments take about an hour and a half and can even be done on your lunch break. Because Thermage has no side effects or “down time”, it has become one of the most popular anti-aging procedures. No post-treatment care is needed after the procedure as well.
After your first treatment, there is a noticeable tightening of the skin, but results from the newly formed collagen can take up to 4 months to be fully seen. Follow up treatments every 12 to 24 months are recommended in order to maintain the results, otherwise skin will naturally re-age over time. Most patients may only need one initial treatment, while some others may need two for instance – so it is important to initially have a consultation to discuss all options. The exact number and frequency will be reviewed during your consultation with Dr. Michele Green.
How Does Thermage Feel?
Each pulse from the Thermage treatment produces a brief moment of heat which only lasts for a few seconds. The technology of Thermage has changed a lot in recent years with the advent of the new CPT “Total Tip”. This new technology includes both a larger tip size and one that is able to penetrate deeper. Now through this process, greater heat is delivered to the deeper layers of the skin with even better cosmetic results. The entire procedure is painless and there is no need for even a topical anesthetic. Dr. Green’s practice offers treatment using this newest version, the “Thermage® Total Tip 3.0”, which leads to even better skin tightening and enhanced long-term results.
How Much Does Thermage Cost?
Estimated costs range from $3,000 to $4,500 but it depends on the area being treated.

*Disclaimer: Results may vary with each patient.
Overall, while Thermage can be used on all types of skin, patients should ideally be non-smokers (this is because cigarette smoke can break down the formation of new collagen, therefore reversing any desired effect).
Thermage is often combined with other treatments in our NYC based office. For example, many patients who are concerned with their jowl area and have a “double chin” may often combine this procedure with Kybella injections or the “Cool-mini” by CoolSculpting to remove submental fat at a subsequent appointment. Many of our patients also have fine lines and collagen loss and frequently combine Thermage with subsequent Sculptra, Restylane, Juvederm, or Botox injections. The only contraindication to Thermage is if you are pregnant, have an active skin infection in the area being treated, or have a pacemaker.
Last but not least, it is important to get Thermage treatments from a board certified dermatologist. Dr. Green can advise on what works best for your situation and we are also listed on the official http://www.thermage.com/ site too.
