As our faces lose volume with age, it’s common for skin to develop a lax quality that contributes to the formation of wrinkles. This is largely due to the decline in natural collagen production that’s responsible for providing a firmer framework that better supports the overlying skin. Dermal fillers like Sculptra® can help our New York patients restore lost volume to smooth away deep lines and wrinkles and even fill in existing scars.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us online today or call 212-535-3088 if you’re ready to learn more about looking younger with the help of Sculptra®. Dr. Michele S. Green, a board certified NYC dermatologist, practices the latest techniques at the forefront of skin care to give you the look that you deserve.
How Sculptra® Helps
Sculptra® is a safe, synthetic, biocompatible material that is used to correct depressions and surface irregularities in the skin. Skin creases, wrinkles, depressions, and folds can all be treated and improved with Sculptra®. Sculptra® is made from poly-L-lactic acid, which is a well-known material that has been used in medical products for more than 20 years. It is commonly used as a component of dissolvable sutures and surgical implants. Sculptra® is biodegradable, meaning that it is gradually broken down and eventually completely eliminated from the body.
Sculptra® has been used quite successfully in Europe and many other countries for the past six years. Over 150,000 patients in thirty different countries have been treated with Sculptra®. Recently, Sculptra® became FDA approved for use in the United States.
Sculptra® is injected below the surface of the skin into the areas that are undergoing treatment. Over the next few weeks, Sculptra® stimulates the production of your own new collagen. It is this new collagen that ultimately produces the improvement in the appearance of the skin. Generally, two or three treatment sessions every four to six weeks are required to obtain the optimum result. Most patients can resume their normal activities immediately after leaving the office. Makeup may be applied a few hours after the treatment.
After completion of your treatment course, skin creases, wrinkles, depressions, and folds are all improved. Treatment results last for up to two years in most patients. The desired results can be maintained after that with minor touch-up treatments.
Sometimes, Dr. Green may recommend that Sculptra® treatments may be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures, like BOTOX® Cosmetic injections to further enhance the result. Sculptra® can also be very effective for rejuvenating the appearance of your hands.
