Allure.com Talks With Dr. Green About Myomectomy Scarring & Keloid Scarring

Allure.com quoted Dr. Michele Green today in “Everything to Know About Myomectomy Scarring” where she discusses how can you reduce the appearance of keloid scarring and postoperative scar care for treating uterine fibroids.  “I inject a lot of patients with an intralesional steroid solution to shrink up the scars,” says Dr. Green, who has often worked with using Vbeam laser treatment for some patients who have red keloids.

She notes however that it can take several treatments to improve the appearance of keloids. “It can take four or five treatments of lasers and a couple treatments of steroid injections to improve the appearance,” she explains. “But keloids are tricky. It depends on where they are, how bad they are.” That said, it is better than surgically cutting a keloid away in many cases, as you “have to be very careful, because in general, when you cut out the keloid, the same thing happens over and over again.”

According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), in the US, keloid scarring is more common in Black and Latin Americans, than people with lighter skin tones.

Allure Magazine Feature on Comedonal Acne (Blackheads)

“Comedonal acne is formed when excessive sebum [the oil your skin produces to hydrate and protect] is combined with dead skin cells, bacteria, and dirt to clog pores,” says Michele Green, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City. This was published today on Allure.com at “You’ve Probably Had Comedonal Acne — Here’s How to Make It Go Away” where she answers common questions about Comedonal Acne.

From info on what is Comedonal acne, to causes and how to treat open and closed Comedones, and the consensus overall, she explains how they work and key culprits.  You might also know them by their more common name “blackheads.”

“The air exposure oxidizes the buildup of sebum and dead skin cells, leading to the dark coloration,” says Dr. Green.  She also recommends her own MGSKINLAB’s Pore Minimizing Cleanser, which contains salicylic acid and glycolic acid. Lip Plumping Glosses and Scalp Psoriasis Treatments at Allure.com

Allure Magazine reached out to Dr. Michele Green for some recommendations on both “The 11 Best Lip Plumping Glosses and Balms for Hydrated, Full Lips” and “The 15 Best Over-the-Counter Scalp Psoriasis Treatments, According to Dermatologists” this week over the holidays at Allure.com.

She notes that for Scalp Psoriasis, the Scalpicin Anti-Itch Liquid is a wonderful addition to any psoriasis-focused scalp routine. “This contains one percent hydrocortisone to reduce itchiness,” she says. “The liquid formulation is non-greasy and allows for easy application on the scalp, and works quickly to relieve itch flare-ups.” In addition to that, she also mentioned what shampoo could work for sensitive scalps, including ones that are free of lanolin, parabens, phthalates, and sulfates.

As for the lip article, Dr. Michele Green, talks about the use of ingredients such as cinnamon, ginger, peppermint, and the same ingredient found in injectables, hyaluronic acid and how they create a plumping effect by temporarily swelling the lips. “The skin reaction [caused by these ingredients] results in localized swelling, which gives the lips a temporary plumping effect,” Green explains in the article today which also looks at some of the best glosses recommended by dermatologists.

Allure asks Dr. Green about the Best Lotions for Dry, Itchy Skin

Dr. Michele Green was featured in “13 Best Lotions for Dry, Itchy Skin, According to Dermatologists” where she was asked common questions like:

  • What do dermatologists recommend for extremely dry, itchy skin?
  • What can I put on dry skin to stop itching?
  • What cream stops itching fast?

Ahead of the colder months, the best thing to do for dry, itchy skin is to apply moisturizer liberally and multiple times a day. Thick creams with high oil concentrations can lock in moisture and she recommended looking for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, colloidal oats, and ceramides to restore the skin barrier. In addition to that, look out for fragrances and alcohol, as those can cause dry skin. While there may not be a “best brand” for everyone’s skin, try to look for products with urea, which soothes skin in addition to providing hydration.

Juvederm SkinVive Filler Coming Soon: Feature in Allure.com

Dr. Green was interviewed by Allure for “SkinVive Is the First Filler of Its Kind Available In the U.S.” where she talks about the new filler from Allergan Aesthetics,  SkinVive which will be released under the Juvederm group of hyaluronic acid fillers.  The fillers you may be more familiar with, like Juvederm or Restylane, “are used to fill and augment various areas of the face and don’t impact the quality of the skin,” says Dr. Green in the article as she discusses the types of fillers and the potential benefits of SkinVive. For example, its a quick procedure and easy to recover from – “patients in the clinical studies were able to resume their daily activities immediately after treatment,” says Dr. Green. Like with Botox or other injectables, “It is recommended to avoid heavy exercise, makeup, and sun exposure for the first 24 hours,” she adds, and also notes that in the initial days after treatment, there can be “swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, or firmness at or near the injection site.”

Approved by the FDA in May and planned for release at the end of September 2023, it will be available at various places across the US. In all cases though, its best to see a medical professional for this and all similar procedures. “It’s recommended to go to an experienced, board-certified dermatologist for any cosmetic injections, as the risk of unwanted side effects and cosmetic results are greatly decreased with a board-certified dermatologist,” says Dr. Green.
