Although summer might feel far away especially with the cooler weather New York is experiencing, it’s not too early to start thinking about preparing for summer and putting more skin than normal on display. There are several procedures that either take multiple treatments or take a few months to take full effect, so spring is the perfect time to start planning.
Something often associated with the summer months, but recommended through all times of year is wearing at least SPF 30 over all exposed skin, as prevention is key when it comes to taking care of your skin and preventing wrinkles and sunspots. If like most people at some point, you have not been diligent about this, there are several treatment options depending on the desired outcome and your natural skin tone.
Here are some of the most common treatment procedures Dr. Michele Green’s patients ask for ahead of the summer months.
Fraxel laser and eMatrix
During the summer heat, sometimes the last thing you want to do is wear makeup. Being comfortable in your bare skin is a wonderful feeling. The Fraxel laser is a great laser for lighter-skinned men and women because it treats a wide range of issues. It can treat skin tone and texture, reduce wrinkles, brown spots and acne scarring. Results can continue for several months after the procedure so it’s not too soon to be thinking about doing it now, optimal results can also take more than one treatment so starting now allows time to do multiple treatments too.
For those with darker skin, the eMatrix is a great laser that does similar things to the Fraxel laser. Another option for dark skin tones as well as lighter skin tones are chemical peels, they require less downtime than lasers but will take more treatments in order to get the desired effect. Dr. Green also offers several different strengths of chemical peels, which can work for reducing the look of aging skin, acne scars or hyperpigmentation for example.
Fat removal for the summer
Speaking of body, since more of your body will be out for the summer, we offer several treatments to make you more confident in your shorts or bikini. For fat removal we offer the popular fat freezing procedure known as CoolSculpting which can take up to three months to see results. A lot of patients also opt to have the same body part done more than once or have other body parts done. CoolSculpting has helped some patients achieve up to a 20% reduction in fat.
For the varicose veins and spider veins there are two procedures that Dr. Green would use. For broken capillaries and redness in the face, the V-beam is the laser Dr. Green uses. A series of four to six treatments spaced at 3 to 4 week intervals will remove telangiectasias (broken capillaries) and embarrassing facial redness leaving you with a more beautiful complexion. For varicose veins on the legs, Dr. Green performs a procedure called sclerotherapy. Your veins will be injected with Asclera®, which irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to seal up and become invisible. After the vein collapses, the body slowly absorbs the remaining tissue over time until the skin becomes smooth and blemish-free.
While many patients notice an improvement in the appearance of their veins after just a single treatment, most patients will require multiple sessions in order to achieve the best results. Each appointment will take about 30 minutes, and the sessions are scheduled a few weeks apart.
