School Sunscreen Policy Blamed for Sending Two Girls to the Hospital – NY Daily News

    “The New York Daily News reported that two girls brought into a hospital with severe sunburn had been forbidden by their school to apply sunscreen during an outdoor field day. Sisters Violet, 11, and Zoe, 9, sported “hurts-to-look-at” burns after spending five hours outdoors with no protection, according to their mom. “

    “Children cannot apply the block to themselves unless they have a doctor’s note as the district considers sunscreen an over-the-counter medication requiring a prescription. In all states except California children are not allowed to apply or bring sunscreens to school, ABC News reports, because it’s considered a medication.”
