What’s the Difference Between Mineral and Chemical Sunscreen?
Pioneer woman blog asks “What’s the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreens?” to several dermatologists including Dr. Michele Green.
She notes that while mineral sunscreens use ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide that sit on the surface of the skin and act as a physical barrier against the sun’s rays, a chemical sunscreen is absorbed into the skin, penetrating on a deeper level due to the chemical ingredients used, such as oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, and/or octinoxate for instance.
