One’s diet is a common reason, as are hormonal issues such as thyroid disease and PCOS. For example: Dr. Green mentions that “both hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) and hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) involve overall scalp hair loss wherein the hair appears thin and sparse.”
As for how one can treat this, there are several options for stimulating hair growth, such as Oral medications (topical Minoxidil, Propecia) or the “laser cap” to grow hair. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) for hair growth is a very popular option in our office for both men and women looking to either thicken existing hair and/or promote the growth of new hair.
