CoolSculpting is based upon science that reveals that fat cells are more sensitive to cold than the overlying skin and surrounding tissues. Selected fat areas are pressed between two cooling plates (adaptors) for one hour and fat cell lipids literally freeze to death. The fat cells harmlessly break down and are reabsorbed by the body. This principle is called popsicle panniculitis, in which targeted fat is frozen and metabolized, then excreted slowly, gently, and painlessly over several months.
