Sun Damage/Pigmentation
Patients who have not responded to conservative treatment can consider laser treatment. The FDA has approved the use of the Fraxel laser for the treatment of melasma. Dr. Green has successfully treated melasma by combining Fraxel laser treatment with hydroquinone, sun avoidance, and the regular use of sunscreen. Generally, an optimal result can be obtained after four or five Fraxel laser treatments given at four to six week intervals.
BBL Broadband light technology treats the sun spots from sun damage, both the hyperpigmentation (brown spots) and the rosacea (red spots) simultaneously on your face. The light energy delivered by the BBL will gently be absorbed by the unwanted melanin responsible for pigmented lesions in the upper layers of the skin. Over the next few days, the pigmented lesions will darken and fall off.
At the same time, the laser or light energy is selectively absorbed by the oxyhemoglobin resulting in heating of the blood vessels. This heating causes the blood vessels to shrink leading to decreased redness in the face and diminishing telangiectasias.
