Mole Removals

Dr. Michele Green is an active member of the Skin Cancer Foundation Society and regularly donates her time for skin cancer screenings. She believes that prevention and early diagnosis saves lives. Dr. Green studied with the late Dr. A. Bernard Ackerman and authored a significant paper with him regarding melanoma.

What is a mole?
Normal moles are common growth, either flesh colored or brown, that appear in the first few decades of life. They can either be flat or elevated.

What causes a mole?
Some people are born with moles. Other moles appear over time. Sun exposure may play a role in the developments of moles and an even greater contribution in the development of atypical or dysplastic nevi.

Heredity is important since Dysplastic Nevi may run in families and can be associated with a higher frequency of melanoma or skin cancer.

Atypical Nevi often can be confused with Malignant Melanoma.

Dr. Michele Green recommends annual skin exams to all patients, regardless of skin color or complexion. If you have a history of skin cancer or dysplastic nevi, Dr. Green encourages more frequent skin examinations.
