Fraxel is a fractional laser treatment that helps remove scars and wrinkles in men and women. As a safe non-surgical treatment, more and more patients are choosing this option – in fact over a million patients around the world have undergone Fraxel treatments (source: Fraxel website) in order to reverse visible signs of aging.
How Does A Fraxel Laser Treatment Work?
The procedure is easy to perform on an outpatient basis and can be done via a series of monthly appointments with Dr. Michele Green. Below is what a schedule on a particular day might look like.
- 12:00pm: Arrive at our office before your 1pm appointment and get treated with numbing medicine.
- 1:00pm: We shield your eyes from the lasers and proceed to do the face or treatment area in sections. Each section gets eight passes at a time and takes about 10 to 15 minutes total. While this is happening, a cooling mechanism blows cold air on your skin to counteract the heat from the laser.
- 1:20pm: After treatment we then provide cold compresses for a few minutes.
- 2:00pm: Going home, we recommend that you put cold compresses on for an hour or two. In the first couple of days, you should also avoid strenuous activities and sunlight. Dr. Green will also prescribe a moisturizing cream for use over the next few days.
Within days, your skin will look younger and fresher and with less pigmentation. The laser procedures help stimulate collagen and elastin within the skin via the safety of non-ablative lasers.
Repair and Restore your skin with Fraxel Laser Treatment
In most cases Fraxel is used on the face, neck, hands or arms, but can also be done elsewhere on the body. Overall, the best candidates for Fraxel are men or women who have fair skin, who might have some sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars or who want an overall resurfacing of the skin. It also has a quick recovery time, often described like feeling a sunburn for one or two days – that like a sunburn, will peel off in the days after.
Several treatments are typically recommended for the most impressive results, and these should be performed on a monthly basis. Dr. Michele Green is one of a few NYC based board certified cosmetic dermatologists who performs Fraxel treatments.
