In recent days, television personality Jenny Farley (more famously known as JWoww, from the “Jersey Shore” TV show) was questioned by many internet users about not putting any sunscreen on her son, when a picture of her son was posted on Instagram. Not only did she fight back, but with her tanning expertise, detailed her recipe for what sunscreen mix she made herself.
“So, here is what I mixed for my son so I know for the two minutes he would be safe: Coconut Oil- SPF 4-6, Zinc Oxide SPF 2-20 depending on how much used, carrot seed oil – SPF 35-40.”
Dr. Michele Green was featured in today’s NY Daily News version of the story as someone who backs up JWoww’s argument, citing “The best thing parents can do is use zinc oxide — and it can be used by itself” and “over-the-counter SPF lotions and sprays can’t be recommended for kids under six months because the products can’t be tested on kids that young”.
